Garmin DriveSmart 86

Now that my Garmin Nuvi 3597 can no longer be updated to City Navigator 2027.10, I am giving some thought to their 30% offer on a replacement. The biggest Display Size in the models offered is 8", which is the Garmin DriveSmart 86. The 30% offer brings it down to $244.99. My wife and I own an RV. We currently use a Garmin DriveSmart 65 with Amazon Alexa in there. If I buy the DriveSmart 86, the DriveSmart 65 could live in my RAM 1500.

Hmmm

Why can’t the 3597 be updated?

When I connect it to Garmin Express, it displays City Navigator North America 2026.30. I called Garmin Product Support earlier and they told me it could not be updated.

However, seeing that some others with the Nuvi 3597 were able to update, I am wondering if there might be another way to update to 2027.10.

My 3597 updated perfectly.
Do you have a SD card installed in the expansion slot?
I have a 32GB micro SD card installed in my 3597 which is now storing 3.51GB of data after the 2027.10 update. My 3597 is using 6.66GB of the 7.02GB internal memory. The extra data from the update went to the SD card.

Yes, I do have a micro SD card in the expansion slot.

My memory card is only a 16 GB, however. It shows 8.90 free of 14.4 GB.

The internal storage has 1.49 GB free 0f 7.01 GB.

Updates

Not only did my two nuvi 3597s update to the new map, but my really ancient nuvi 750 updated to the new map. My thought is that a Customer Support person gave a caller false information.

This map update to GPS devices and computers is an odd one. It's not that certain GPS devices can't get the update until Garmin fixes a bug, and it's not a user's computer software or hardware glitch. What we're reporting here is that many folks fail updating a GPS device or computer once or several times, but with yet another attempt to install the update having made no changes, it succeeds. I can't imagine a scenario that explains this current status. confused
