I encountered the error messages, but it's simply because I tried updating more than one device at a time. Something I can do with a 16-port powered USB hub connected to my laptop.
All my current units (DriveSmart 65, 76, and Drive 51) and one of my legacy units (3550LM) are updated. Now working on my 3760 and 3790.
I could update my 1350LMT, but I think it's time to let that one go. It's honestly a bit of a pain waiting for someone to upload the large JCV file.

One can free up space on their computer after installing the updated maps by uninstalling the old map on one's computer in addition to removing the downloaded files (both map, firmware and other files).
On Windows the typical download location is as follows:
C:\ProgramData\GARMIN\CoreService\Downloads
C:\ProgramData\GARMIN\CoreService\Downloads\Firmware
C:\ProgramData\GARMIN\CoreService\Downloads\Map
C:\ProgramData\GARMIN\CoreService\Downloads\Temp
With the install problems some others are having, will hold up updating my Nuvi 2598 for a day or so to see if things clear up (or Garmin fixes the issue(s) on their end).
Is there a problem with the program. did Garmin fix it?
I tried to update my Zumo XT. Garmin Express states I am up to date after performing the update, but now City Navigator is no longer visible on the Garmin Zumo XT. The other maps I have added are still there, however.
I did connect my Garmin DriveSmart 65 with Amazon Alexa and it stated I am up to date with City Navigator 2026.3
At this point I am going to hold off before doing anything else with my other Garmins. The staff at Garmin may need some time to straighten this all out.
Had a few problems with the update. Got several error messages. The GPS shows maps updated to 207.10. If you go on the computer with GPS attached. It shows in the the main folders ,last modified date, not the present date of the update. You have to click on the map to see the date it was updated. A little confusing. Re-updated before I caught it.
I had a similar problem yesterday too (Wed,Feb 25). Garmin Express (GE) successfully installed the 2027.10 map on my 2797, then when I turned about to update my 2555, GE stated my maps (2026.30) are up-to-date with the 2555.
...on an old nuvi 265 and my main unit a nuvi 2689. The 265 took 1hour and 58 minutes but the 2689 took about 35 minutes. Both units show the appropriate map after the updates.
Is there a problem with the program. did Garmin fix it?
...I tried to update my Zumo XT. Garmin Express states I am up to date after performing the update, but now City Navigator is no longer visible on the Garmin Zumo XT.
I just reinstalled CN 2027.10 on the Garmin Zumo XT and now the map is visible.
I also checked my Garmin DriveSmart 65 with Amazon Alexa, but I was not offered the option to upgrade.
The Garmin Nuvi 50 showed an error, but I downloaded a second time and it works.
I just checked the Garmin DriveSmart 65 with Amazon Alexa, again, and this time it was offered and I am downloading as I type this. The first time around I got an error message and so did two other attempts.
Today, Garmin Express no longer indicates a map update for a Nuvi 2598. Instead it says "You're up to date".
Update: Closing Garmin Express then reopening it now indicates a map update. Attempting to install to both Windows PC and Nuvi 2598.
Update #2: Somewhere along the update, it failed for some reason. GE says "There was an error installing the update". Closing and reopening GE indicates no update. Checking the Nuvi it indicates:
CN North America NT 2027.10 ALL Canada & Mexico
CN North America NT 2027.10 ALL US
Looks like the Windows PC map install failed.
Update #3: Disconnecting the Nuvi, closing GE. Then reconnecting the Nuvi and opening GE I could then select the Map Details option followed by Map Options, then the Install to Computer option to install the map to the Windows PC (to C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps).
Without your generous help with the large JCV files, I'd have no JCV files at all as Garmin cuts back on support. I'd probably stop updating at all rather than do without.

I'm glad I read this thread before updating my devices. Today I updated a DriveLuxe 51 and two nuvi 2597s. I also did an update to my PC. I did succeed in updating the three GPS units, although I had multiple red-bar failures first. Also, one of my attempts gave me a green Success after about 3-5 seconds, which I knew was impossible, so I tried again and finally succeeded.
If this just happened to me, I'd assume there was an issue with my PC or cable used, but since so many have had failures like me, Garmin seems to be responsible for the problem.
My update to the PC was done separately as earlier map updates would fail if I requested an update to a GPS and PC in a single update. This failed although I think the map was installed to the PC but not activated. With a GPS connected to the PC, running Basecamp shows two 2027.1 maps, one from the GPS and one from the computer. But when the GPS is not connected, the PC version does not appear in Basecamp's map list.
I do have one observation. In the past when trying to install the map to the PC, there was a Windows UAC alert which I had to approve for the map to install. Today's attempt to get 2027.1 working on the PC did not have a Windows UAC alert.
For those of you Windows users who got the new map working in Basecamp, do you have any tips for me? One more question. Given my Windows UAC issue, is it only some Windows users who have had a problem? No Macs with the issue?
I wonder about the errors. On my first two tries I had the non-specific error too, said it updated and all was well, but still at 2026.30. Third time it worked starting at ~50% loaded. Huh???
I still wonder why Garmin Express has a half-life of 17 days.

"Last night, I had to wrestle with Garmin Express (GE) while trying to update my Garmin 1450 to the 2027.10 maps. Everything started fine, but the internet dropped halfway through. Even after I got back online, GE just froze and sat there spinning. Once I got the software behaving again, it stubbornly insisted I was already 'up-to-date' with the 2026.30 version. To bypass the glitch, I decided to manually wipe the 2026.30 map from the device so GE couldn't use it as a fallback. The gamble paid off—GE finally recognized the 2027.10 update, and by late last night, the 1450 was fully current."
I just got off the telephone with Garmin Support. I asked about updating my Nuvi 3597 and the representative told me that the Nuvi has reached EOL (End Of Life). He did offer 30% off a unit from the Drive series. He also followed up with an email.
One thought I had given this new information is I am encouraging those posting to please include the Garmin model number and whether it was updated or not.
I don't know if Garmin determines this model by model or if models are older than a certain date makes them EOL.
Another thought is the size of the internal memory may be a determining factor, too.
Hello James,
You will get 30% off any device selected in the link below.
I have two nuvi 3597's. Both of them updated to 2027.10 juxt fine. These units are still the best Garmin ever made IMO, so I sure hope they are not at end of life.
Incidentally, my DriveLuxe 51 and my ancient nuvi 755T also updated OK. On the 755, only the US map installed and I had to manually copy in the Canada/Mexico map from one of my other units. GE put the US map on the SD card as gmapsup1.img, so I put the Canada/Mexico map on the internal storage as gmapprom.img Garmin Express did install both JCV files, so all of NA is now showing and working correctly on it.
Thanks for the heads up on a new map. So, decided to use the WiFi feature on my DS65. Initially showed both a software and a map update available, install both. Estimated time 3 hours. In 15 min it went to 1 hour, 30 min after showed 45 min. Than after another 30 min showed 5 min. In 5 it showed 2 and in another 5 <1. All told probably 1 3/4 hours total.
My DS65 is permanently mounted on my dash and powered from an ACC fuse. The WiFi strength indicator shows one less than maximum bars when the vehicle is in my attached garage.
No errors or issues, but to see what has changed.

That is interesting. That makes me wonder if Garmin simply doesn't want to spend the money on labor for Product Support.
I wonder if I am the only 3597 owner that was told this.
I just gave my 3597 a try after reading this thread. GE initially offered me the 2027.1 update, but it erred out. After installing it only to my PC, I tried again with the 3597 and now it says I'm up to date, still with 2026.3. I do almost all my navigating these days with Android Auto, so I'm not going to waste a lot of time trying to get this to work, but it is unfortunate if it's really EOL. Storage can't be an issue since I have a 32Gb SD card installed, and GE has been storing files on it over the last several map updates.

Even though you have a 32 GB card, just how much of that space is available? I haven’t researched it lately but at one time 8 GB was needed as a minimum, and I had issues even though I was over that amount of free space. No issues with a clean 16 GB.
I own a Garmin 3597 that I picked up last year. I have to agree with a previous poster—this unit is easily one of the best legacy models out there. Since Garmin Express (GE) handled my 2797 without a hitch yesterday, it stands to reason the 3597 should update just as easily, especially considering they were both top-tier "ADVANCE" models in their day.

According to Express the card is only 11% used and 28Gb available.
I just discovered an interesting work around with Garmin Express (GE) that has worked 100% for me.
I tried updating my 2555 maps from 2026.30 to 2027.10, but the home page wouldn't even acknowledge an available update (just like yesterday). In fact, despite 2027.10 being available, GE showed no numerical indication of an update and claimed my 2026.30 maps were current. The device screen insisted I was "Up-To-Date." GE even tried to steer me toward a map purchase instead.
I decided to try the same trick I used on my 1450 yesterday: I manually removed the 2026.30 maps and relaunched GE. Sure enough, it immediately offered the 2027.10 update. That’s now a 2-for-2 success rate in forcing the update just by eliminating the previous version.
I tried my Garmin Nuvi 3597 on a different computer in the house tonight. I installed Garmin Express, GE offered me the update and I now have CN NA 2027.10 on it.
Both computers are Windows 11. Both are using Garmin Express 7.28.0.
(Fri. Feb 27) — I think that might be the solution to the Garmin Express (GE) glitch. I was just prompted to update from v7.24.0.0 to v7.28.0.0. Let's see if this does the trick.
P.S. (Sat. Feb 28) — After updating GE to the latest version last night, it’s still behaving oddly (e.g., only offering the 2026.30 maps).
Also my "workaround" initially seemed to work, but GE ended up playing a proverbial game of cat-and-mouse yesterday evening.
I wonder about the errors. On my first two tries I had the non-specific error too, said it updated and all was well, but still at 2026.30. Third time it worked starting at ~50% loaded. Huh???
I still wonder why Garmin Express has a half-life of 17 days.
I updated yesterday but got my truck back today and tried it in situ. No maps visible (I zoomed out and the base map was there). All four 2027.10 maps were identified in settings. I unchecked all and re-checked the last two (the maps, not the advertisements) and all was well.
Third time it worked starting at ~50% loaded. Huh???
This is an indication that the download package had already been successfully downloaded & extracted to your PC and that Garmin Express was using that already existing download to reinstall to your GPS unit. The 50% remaining still needed to be transferred again (for whatever reason the first two times didn't complete) to the GPS.
All of these Garmin Express errors remind me of the old days when Express replaced the old reliable Garmin Map Updater. There were multiple errors that it seemed to take Garmin forever to address. It is one of teh reasons that the cloning method became so popular. I haven't tried cloning recently, but I suspect it might be a work around for some of these current problems in Express.
I have two nuvi 3597's. Both of them updated to 2027.10 juxt fine. These units are still the best Garmin ever made IMO, so I sure hope they are not at end of life.

Also two 3597's; one updated successfully, one failed.

Just a reminder, if you are interested in other Garmin compatible maps, either because you can no longer update your City Navigator maps or if you simply want another choice of maps, take a look at OpenStreetMaps. There are a number of different ways to get OSM. A couple of my favorite website for them are https://www.openmapchest.org and https://www.bbbike.org
Both offer free OpenStreetMaps (OSM), but in different ways. OpenMapChest offers free downloads of the United States broken down into regions. It also offers maps from around the world. These are updated weekly.
Garmin Express (GE) FINALLY acknowledged the availability of 2027.10 map for my 2555. It initially only offered 2026.30 since the release of 2027.10; however, today I tried once more. And after a couple of forced refreshes using the Refresh button, it finally made it availability (on the Home page).
GE also acknowledged the availability of 2027.10 for my 3597. After two red bar Error messages at around 50%, it completed the download.

Re: the 3597 & Map update 2027.10
I own a Garmin 3597 that I picked up last year. I have to agree with a previous poster—this unit is easily one of the best legacy models out there. Since Garmin Express (GE) handled my 2797 without a hitch yesterday, it stands to reason the 3597 should update just as easily, especially considering they were both top-tier "ADVANCE" models in their day.
28Gb available

According to Express the card is only 11% used and 28Gb available.
Re: Map update 2027.10
Map Update 2027.10 Out
I tried my Garmin Nuvi 3597 on a different computer in the house tonight. I installed Garmin Express, GE offered me the update and I now have CN NA 2027.10 on it.
Both computers are Windows 11. Both are using Garmin Express 7.28.0.
Re: Map update 2027.10
So many errors
I wonder about the errors. On my first two tries I had the non-specific error too, said it updated and all was well, but still at 2026.30. Third time it worked starting at ~50% loaded. Huh???
I still wonder why Garmin Express has a half-life of 17 days.
I updated yesterday but got my truck back today and tried it in situ. No maps visible (I zoomed out and the base map was there). All four 2027.10 maps were identified in settings. I unchecked all and re-checked the last two (the maps, not the advertisements) and all was well.
What is going on? A massive Garmin screw-up??
cached download

This is an indication that the download package had already been successfully downloaded & extracted to your PC and that Garmin Express was using that already existing download to reinstall to your GPS unit. The 50% remaining still needed to be transferred again (for whatever reason the first two times didn't complete) to the GPS.

Garmin Express history.

Will update soon.
So much for Lifetime Updates
I have two nuvi 3597's. Both of them updated to 2027.10 juxt fine. These units are still the best Garmin ever made IMO, so I sure hope they are not at end of life.
...
Also two 3597's; one updated successfully, one failed.

Thanks for the heads up
will try that tomorrow...

I just did my 2699 and my DriveSmart 55 with no issues and took 11 minutes each.
Map Update 2027.10 Out
Just a reminder, if you are interested in other Garmin compatible maps, either because you can no longer update your City Navigator maps or if you simply want another choice of maps, take a look at OpenStreetMaps.
BBBike offers OSM, Cycle, Leisure, Onroad, Ontrail, BBBike, OpenFietsMap (Lite), OpenFietsMap (Full), OpenSeaMap and OpenTopoMap.
I also encourage adding a micro SD card for additional memory.
Re. Map update 2027.10 out
Garmin Express (GE) FINALLY acknowledged the availability of 2027.10 map for my 2555.
